Yvonne Jones has served as the MHA for Cartwright – L’Anse au Clair for the past 12 years.  Ms. Jones was first introduced to politics in 1991, with her election as Mayor of her hometown, Mary’s Harbour, Labrador . In 1996, she ran as an independent member and was elected to the House of Assembly. Jones was elected for her second term as a Liberal MHA in 1999. Since then, she has served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Department of Works, Services and Transportation and to the Department of Health. In 2003, she was appointed Minister of Fisheries & Aquaculture, the first female in the province to hold that position, as well as the Minister Responsible for the Status of Women. She was appointed the Interim Leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador and Leader of the Official Opposition on November 15th, 2007.

Judy’s been an active member of the Liberal Party for nearly 20 years leading the way in organizing Provincial Party fundraisers in the 1990’s and playing a very active role in the 2003 and 2007 Provincial Elections as the Co-Chair of the Roland Butler campaign. In the 2006 Federal Election, Judy was named Campaign Manager for the Liberal Candidate of the Riding of Avalon Bill Morrow, taking on a leadership role and advocating the importance of team work. Judy’s work for the Liberal Party of Canada didn’t stop there. She participated in the 2006 Federal Leadership as an organizer for the Ken Dryden Campaign and again in 2009 Liberal Leadership as an organizer for the Michael Ignatieff Campaign.

Mr. Thistle is a lawyer in private practice in St. John’s.  He works primarily in natural resource project development and business litigation.

He previously served as Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General for Newfoundland & Labrador, General Counsel for the Hibernia offshore oil project, and was Vice President of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. He has a master’s degree in Newfoundland history from Memorial University.

Keith has been an active member of the Liberal Party for many years having previously served as President of the Memorial University of Newfoundland / Read More

Keith has been an active member of the Liberal Party for many years having previously served as President of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Young Liberals and President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Young Liberals. He was twice named Young Liberal of the Year in 2009 by the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Young Liberals of Canada.

In 2006 and 2008, Keith was named Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Chair for the Michael Ignatieff Leadership Campaign. In addition to these roles, Keith has served in various other capacities such as a member of his provincial district and federal riding associations.

Keith is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and later a Bachelor of Business Administration.

He is currently the Member’s Assistant to Siobhan Coady, Member of Parliament for St. John’s South – Mount Pearl and Liberal Critic for Treasury Board and an active member of his community.

2010 Leadership Convention and
Annual General Meeting

The Executive Board of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador has announced that the 2010 Leadership Convention  and Annual General Meeting will take place at the St. John’s Convention Centre  on November 19-21, 2010.

Jody Fancey and Mark Watton will serve as the Convention Co-chairs.
