Roland Butler, MHA
PORT DE GRAVE
Roland Butler has lived in the Port de Grave District for forty years. For the past thirty-four years he has lived in the community of Shearstown where he has been actively involved in all aspects of community and political life. He and his wife Maude (nee Mercer) have one son, Darrell. Darrell and his wife Kim (nee Deering) have two sons, Justin and Andrew.
Roland attended Coley’s Point High School and successfully completed a program in Business Administration.
In 1971, Roland became involved with the Liberal Party and in particular, the Port de Grave District Liberal Association. From 1974 to 1984 he held various positions including Secretary and Vice-president. In 1985, he became President of the District Association and held that position until 1989. Roland was re-elected as President of the District Association in 1994, a position he held until June 2001.
Roland served as Executive Assistant to the Hon. R. John Efford, MHA, from 1989 to November 2000, then briefly as Executive Assistant to the Hon. Tom Lush, MHA from February 2001 until June 19, 2001 when he became the Member of the House of Assembly for the District of Port de Grave. After his election in 2001, Roland served as Party Whip and Deputy Chair of Committees. He was re-elected in the 2003 and 2007 general election and was appointed Deputy Opposition House Leader, Caucus Chair and Chair of the Public Accounts Committee.
Roland’s involvement in community activities has been extensive. He served a total of twelve years with both the Bay Roberts Lions Club and Shearstown Lions Club. During his service with the Lions, Roland held various positions including that of President, as well as serving on several committees, at the district level. Additionally, Roland has been an active member of his church, taking leadership roles on several committees as well as serving on the Board of Management. Other community related activities have included the C.B. Horsemen’s Association, the Shearstown Minor Hockey Association (Conception Bay North Minor Hockey Association) and the Shearstown Recreation Committee. He is also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bay Roberts and Cromwell L.O.L. #81, Shearstown.
Roland’s community work has been recognized and he has been presented with a number of awards. These awards include Lion of the Year in 1982-83, Bay Roberts Lions Club, and Lion of the Year in 1991-92 in the Shearstown Lions Club. Roland was also named Shearstown’s Citizen of the Year in 1993.

Marshall Dean, MHA
THE STRAITS - WHITE BAY NORTH
Marshall Dean was elected to the House of Assembly in 2009 as MHA for The Straits – White Bay North.
Prior to entering politics, Marshall was the President/Owner of Canada Ice Enterprises in St. Anthony, NL., a company that bottles iceberg water under the brand name, 80 Degrees North. Marshall is a veteran of Business Development and Operational Management. Prior to committing his full attention to his company, Marshall held the position of Senior Vice-President/Managing Director of Provincial Aerospace. In that capacity he was responsible for the strategic planning, development of divisional business plans, direct operational guidance, and other related duties for 600 employees. Prior to this, Marshall served as the General Manager of the Woodward Auto Group’s West Coast Operations. There he was responsible for five locations and a total of 60 employees. He has a total of 15 years management experience in the automotive industry, 6 years experience as a leader in the financial field, as well as 10 years experience as a church/community leader.
Marshall has served communities where he has lived through municipal government, school board leadership, chambers of commerce and numerous other committee related activities. He has served as the President of the St. Anthony and Area Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Grenfell Foundation, member of the provincial Small Business Board, and Executive member of General Motor’s Marketing Board for Newfoundland and Labrador.
During his career, Marshall has received extensive training in business management, communication, leadership, budgeting, interpersonal skills, and many other areas which have helped prepare him for the challenge positioned before him as President of the company. His primary role with Canada Ice is one of control of the day-to-day operations of the St. Anthony plant as well as leading the marketing team and developing strategy for the Canadian and International Market.

Yvonne Jones, MHA
CARTWRIGHT - L'ANSE AU CLAIR & LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION
Yvonne Jones has served as the MHA for Cartwright – L’Anse au Clair for the past 12 years. Ms. Jones was first introduced to politics in 1991, with her election as Mayor of her hometown, Mary’s Harbour, Labrador . In 1996, she ran as an independent member and was elected to the House of Assembly. Jones was elected for her second term as a Liberal MHA in 1999. Since then, she has served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Department of Works, Services and Transportation and to the Department of Health. In 2003, she was appointed Minister of Fisheries & Aquaculture, the first female in the province to hold that position, as well as the Minister Responsible for the Status of Women. She was appointed the Interim Leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador and Leader of the Official Opposition on November 15th, 2007 .
A graduate of West Viking College , Ms. Jones began her career as a journalist and has worked throughout the province as a news reporter. She also carried out contract work as a researcher with MUN and as a Resource Employment Counselor with Human Resources Development Canada.
Ms. Jones is also an entrepreneur and has owned and operated small businesses in Labrador in both the transportation and tourism sectors.
Through her volunteer work with the Battle Harbour Development Corporation, the Combined Councils of Labrador, the Labrador Metis Nation and various literacy groups and councils, Ms. Jones played a significant role in improving the quality of life not only for the people of her district, but for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Ms. Jones lives in Mary’s Harbour with her husband Jim.

Kelvin Parsons, MHA
BURGEO - LAPOILE
Kelvin L. Parsons graduated from St. James Regional High School in Port aux Basques in 1972. From there, he attended Memorial University of Newfoundland where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree in 1976.
In 1979 Mr. Parsons was awarded an L.LB. from the University of New Brunswick, and was called to the Newfoundland Bar in 1980. He practiced law at Port aux Basques from 1980-1999.
In February, 1999 he was elected M.H.A. for the Provincial District of Burgeo & LaPoile and in January, 2000 was appointed Minister of Justice and Attorney General. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in April, 2000 and in April 2002 he was appointed Acting Minister of Industry, Trade and Rural Development and Deputy House Leader. Mr. Parsons was re-elected in October, 2003 and again in October 2007 and appointed Opposition House Leader.
Mr. Parsons is married to Donna (Lomond) of Port aux Basques, and they have three children: Kristopher, Andrew and Adam.
